IDF Home Front Command Assists Colombia After Devastating Earthquake

An Israeli delegation led by the IDF Home Front Command arrived in Colombia on Friday to assist following a severe earthquake that struck the country last week. This mission comes shortly after Colombia renewed diplomatic ties with Israel. The delegation operates in coordination with the Israeli Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Israeli embassy in Colombia, headed by Ambassador Alon Lavi.

Upon arrival, the Israeli team began working alongside local authorities and professionals at multiple major destruction sites. Their efforts focus on locating and rescuing trapped individuals, supported by numerous local volunteers. At the university hospital damaged by the quake, Israeli engineers collaborate with local experts to advise on complex structural evacuations and to restore the affected wing for use.

Additionally, the delegation is mapping and assessing damaged buildings with local officials to prioritize recovery efforts. They are also helping establish a data management system to improve situational awareness and decision-making. The Israeli team will continue to provide expertise and support to Colombian authorities to save lives and address the earthquake's aftermath.
