Man Attacks Worshipper and Security Guard at New York Synagogue, Suspect Arrested

An antisemitic incident occurred late Saturday night at a synagogue in New York City when a man began acting violently during prayer. The suspect attacked a worshipper and a security guard who intervened to stop him. Video footage from the scene shows the suspect shouting aggressively, striking one worshipper, spitting on the security guard, and headbutting him before being restrained. The suspect was arrested, and no medical treatment was required for those attacked.

Jessica Tisch, the New York Police Department chief, stated that the investigation is ongoing and confirmed there are no further threats to the synagogue. Additional police officers have been deployed around the area as a precaution. New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani condemned the attack, expressing shock and emphasizing that all residents must be free to practice their faith without fear of violence. He pledged that the city will do everything possible to ensure the safety of the Jewish community.

This incident follows other recent antisemitic events, including a stabbing of two people on a New York street, one of whom was Jewish, and the theft of three Torah scrolls from a synagogue in Paris.
