Three-Year-Old Girl Dies After Choking on Grape in Jerusalem Before Sister’s Wedding

Yael Rivka Betzalel, a three-year-old girl from the Ramot neighborhood in Jerusalem, tragically passed away at Shaare Zedek Medical Center after choking on a grape at her home about two weeks earlier. Emergency medical teams, including paramedics from United Hatzalah and Magen David Adom, responded quickly and performed prolonged resuscitation efforts. A paramedic managed to remove the grape blocking her airway before she was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, where she was placed on a ventilator.

Despite intensive care and prayers from family and community, Yael Rivka’s condition deteriorated, and she was pronounced dead this morning. The tragedy struck the family just one week before the wedding of her older sister, turning what should have been a joyful occasion into a time of mourning. The funeral procession departed from the Shmgar Funeral Home in Jerusalem to the Mount of Olives cemetery, where she will be buried in the Yemenite section.
