Olympic Medalist Oren Smadja Joins Gilad Erdan’s New Unity Party

Gilad Erdan’s newly formed Unity Party continues to take shape with the addition of Olympic medalist Oren Smadja, who joined the party on Wednesday. Smadja, who lost his son Omer in combat, explained that his decision was driven by a belief that national unity outweighs political divisions. "This is an emotional and historic day for me and my family," Smadja said. "I am embarking on a new path. Throughout my life, I have worn the Israeli flag on my uniform. I have experienced great highs and the deepest pain a father can bear when my son Omer fell in battle." He emphasized that his understanding of the importance of unity led him to join Erdan’s party, which he described as "true and responsible right-wing, believing everyone must serve the country and that this value is the foundation of our unity."

Smadja’s joining adds to other notable figures in the party, including former Knesset member Yuli Edelstein, who left Likud, and former Beit Shemesh mayor Aliza Bloch. Despite these prominent names, recent polls show the party still struggles to pass the electoral threshold. The key question remains whether these new additions will boost the party’s standing and secure its place in the next Knesset.
