MK Michal Waldiger Urges Givat Shmuel Mayor to Resolve Bnei Akiva Yeshiva Dispute for Students' Sake

MK Michal Waldiger, a resident of Givat Shmuel and former city council member, sharply criticized the ongoing conflict between the Givat Shmuel municipality and the Bnei Akiva Yeshiva, emphasizing the heavy toll on the 1,075 students, their families, and the educational staff. Speaking to "Srugim," Waldiger stressed that the core issue is not the legal or real estate dispute but the damage inflicted on the yeshiva community. She called for an immediate halt to the conflict to protect this important educational institution, which has been built over decades, warning against dismantling it overnight due to a localized disagreement.

Waldiger urged all parties to set aside ego and political disputes, focusing instead on the students and the yeshiva’s future. She placed direct responsibility on Givat Shmuel’s mayor, Yossi Brodny, stating that the power to resolve the crisis lies with him and demanding that he ensure the school year begins properly. She also criticized Brodny for prioritizing his national political ambitions over managing the city, insisting that the mayor should dedicate himself fully to local governance.

Addressing a recent alarming letter from Rabbi Shraga Prochter, head of the yeshiva, who expressed that his strength is waning amid the crisis, Waldiger expressed deep concern. She called the letter a significant warning sign and urged the mayor to respond swiftly and decisively to prevent further deterioration. Waldiger concluded by emphasizing the urgency of municipal intervention to safeguard the yeshiva and its community.
