Israeli Man Returned from DR Congo Hospitalized on Suspected Ebola Case

A 24-year-old Israeli man who recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with a fever has been hospitalized in isolation at Soroka Medical Center under suspicion of Ebola infection. His condition is stable, and he is being treated according to Ministry of Health protocols. This marks the third suspected Ebola case in Israel in recent months; previous suspected cases at Sheba and Rambam hospitals were ruled out after testing negative.

The Ministry of Health stated that diagnostic tests are underway with results expected within 24 hours, alongside an ongoing epidemiological investigation. Since the Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda, Israeli health authorities have been closely monitoring the situation and maintaining preparedness for any potential cases.

The Ministry advises against non-essential travel to regions with active Ebola transmission, primarily the DRC and Uganda. Travelers to these areas are recommended to seek pre-travel consultation at specialized clinics. Ebola is a severe viral disease transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids of infected or deceased individuals or contaminated objects, but it is not airborne. Individuals exposed to the virus without symptoms are not considered contagious.
