Israeli Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Theft of Over a Ton of Watermelons and Damage by 300 Sheep

Last week, over 1,014 kilograms of watermelons were stolen from an agricultural field near Ein HaMifratz in northern Israel. Police arrested two suspects on the spot after spotting them picking and loading the watermelons into a vehicle. One suspect is an undocumented resident from the West Bank, while the other is accused of employing and transporting him.

In addition to the theft, a herd of approximately 300 sheep entered the field, causing damage to the crops. The field owner reported the incident to the police, who conducted surveillance and apprehended the suspects. The agricultural damage is estimated at several thousand shekels. The owner of the sheep herd was fined 150,000 shekels for the animals trespassing on the farmland.

The vehicle used in the theft was confiscated by authorities. Following the investigation, indictments were filed against both suspects for theft, trespassing, and causing agricultural damage. The case highlights ongoing issues with agricultural crime and unauthorized labor in the region.
