Beitar Jerusalem Nearing Deal for Eugene Ansah as It Moves on From Weissman
Beitar Jerusalem is close to finalizing a deal for M.S. Ashdod striker Eugene Ansah, who is expected to become one of the club’s top earners. The Ghanaian forward, who was relegated with Ashdod and is now a free agent under a contract clause tied to relegation, is also in an advanced naturalization process that should allow him to count as an Israeli player rather than occupy a foreign-player slot.
Ansah would initially be registered as a foreigner, but he is expected to receive citizenship in the coming months. Beitar’s professional staff, led by Almog Cohen, values him highly and already tried to sign him during the January transfer window. If the move is completed, he is set to earn about 260,000 euros per season.
The club’s plan to sign Ansah would likely end its pursuit of Sean Weissman. Weissman had been linked with a return to Israel and to Beitar Jerusalem, but he is still considering offers from Europe. Beitar does not want to wait for him and wants its squad settled early for the Conference League qualifiers.
Ansah began last season strongly, scoring seven goals and adding five assists in his first 12 matches. He then tailed off, adding only two more goals by the end of the campaign. Even after Ashdod’s relegation and his uneven finish, Cohen wants to see him in Beitar’s yellow and black kit.
