Beitar Jerusalem Nears Agreement to Sign Striker Sean Weisman on Two-Year Deal
Beitar Jerusalem has made significant progress in negotiations to sign striker Sean Weisman, with optimism growing within the club about securing the player. The breakthrough came after club owner Barak Abramov reversed his initial plan to offer Weisman a one-year contract with an option, instead proposing a two-year deal with an option for a third season. Weisman’s salary is expected to be around 300,000 euros per season, making him the third highest-paid Israeli player on the team, below Yarden Shua and Omer Atzili. Additionally, if Weisman directly contributes to 15 goals through scoring or assists, he will receive a bonus.
Weisman, who recently ended his contract with Austrian club Blau-Weiß Linz, has promised to give a final answer within a few days. The club is hopeful he will sign, and if so, Beitar Jerusalem will not pursue a foreign striker. The team’s forwards for the upcoming season would then include Weisman, Eugene Ansah, and Yarden Shua, who can also play as a striker if needed.
Weisman has expressed to friends that if he returns to Israel, it will only be to play for Beitar Jerusalem, citing the city’s significance and the club’s fan base. A positive factor in the deal is the tax situation: unlike former player Tomer Yosefi, who paid around half a million shekels in taxes, Weisman is exempt from passive income tax for five years and capital gains tax for ten years, due to having lived abroad for eight years.
Previously, Weisman was under contract with Granada and loaned to Salernitana in the 2023/24 season before becoming a free agent. He then signed a one-year contract with Blau-Weiß Linz with an option for a second season, but the club’s relegation nullified that clause. Last season, he made 29 appearances for the Austrian club, scoring 10 goals and providing one assist.
