Israeli Runner Adva Cohen Advances to European Championships 3000m Steeplechase Final

Adva Cohen, 30, qualified for the final of the 3000-meter steeplechase at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham on Monday. Competing in her fourth European Championship, Cohen secured the eighth and final qualifying spot with a dramatic finish, clocking 9:37.15 minutes. Sixteen athletes competed in the heat, with the top eight advancing to the final. This marks another chance for Cohen to match or improve upon her fifth-place finish at the 2018 Berlin European Championships.

Meanwhile, young Israeli talent Josh Harel, soon to turn 18, concluded the World U20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon, with a personal best performance for the Israeli team by clearing 2.17 meters in the high jump. Harel, who holds a personal record of 2.18 meters set twice this year, failed to clear 2.21 meters due to injury and fouls. Born to an Israeli father and Australian mother and residing in Los Angeles, Harel recently chose to represent Israel and is expected to compete domestically against national champion Yonatan Kapitulnik.

In other athletics news, Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway won the 5000 meters in a thrilling race, finishing in 13:15.29 minutes ahead of France's Robert Brame. Ingebrigtsen withdrew from the 1500 meters due to injury, opening a spot for Israeli athlete Matan Heveri on the participant list.
