IDF Paratrooper Yotam Asban Marries After Severe Head Injury in Gaza Conflict

Yotam Asban, an IDF paratrooper from Beit El, married his fiancée Rinat more than two years after sustaining a severe head injury during fighting in Jabalia, Gaza Strip. Asban was wounded in May 2024 when his unit came under tank fire in a crossfire incident, leading to a prolonged rehabilitation process. After regaining his faculties, he reached the milestone of starting a family in Israel.

The couple's relationship emerged from a circle of support for war casualties. Racheli Mushkovitz, CEO of the theater and acting school Lachisha, who shared the story on social media, explained that the matchmaker who introduced Yotam and Rinat had previously connected Rinat's brother, also wounded in the war, with a partner. Mushkovitz described the union as a "circle of kindness and miracles."

Yotam and Rinat announced their engagement in May 2024 with a message expressing gratitude and joy. Ahead of their wedding, they received special blessings from Israeli President Isaac Herzog and his wife Michal. Herzog congratulated the couple and wished them happiness, while Michal Herzog acknowledged Yotam's challenging recovery and wished them health and joy. The president also recognized Yotam's mother, Michal Asban, founder and chair of "Mother Lioness," an organization supporting families of wounded IDF soldiers, wishing the newlyweds a faithful and happy home.
