Israeli Tank Warrior Eitan Meir Sabag Shares Recovery Journey After Severe Gaza Injury
The Hesder Yeshiva "Or VeYeshua" in Haifa held a heartfelt end-of-summer celebration featuring a special thanksgiving event for Eitan Meir Sabag, an armored corps soldier who was severely wounded in Gaza about a year ago and is still undergoing rehabilitation. During the evening, Sabag recounted the moments of his injury and the long recovery process, emphasizing the miracles that accompanied his survival. He described how the explosive charge was expected to cause far greater damage, and how he was unconscious and not breathing when extracted from the tank, realizing later that every breath was a miracle. Medical staff were reportedly amazed at his rapid awakening, which Sabag attributed to divine intervention.
Sabag also shared how visits from bereaved parents who had lost their sons and weekly visits from yeshiva friends provided him with immense strength during his six months of hospitalization. He reflected on how the injury gave him new perspective, teaching him to appreciate every breath as a blessing. He expressed deep gratitude to the many volunteers, citizens, and supporters who prayed for and accompanied him throughout his recovery.
The event also marked the completion of the study of Tractate Shabbat by the yeshiva students over the summer and included a recruitment ceremony for about 30 students preparing to join combat units in the upcoming August IDF intake. Yeshiva head Rabbi Yedidya Zaini praised the students and highlighted Sabag’s example of true heroism, not only on the battlefield but also in his daily struggle with rehabilitation, faith, humility, and gratitude. He expressed the yeshiva’s honor in supporting Sabag and prayed for his continued strength, full recovery, and growth in Torah and health.
