Israeli Soldiers Injured in Combat Meet During Rehabilitation and Fall in Love

Asaf Yaish, a 23-year-old combat officer in the Givati Brigade, and Lian Cohen, a 21-year-old Border Police fighter, both sustained injuries during separate operational activities in early 2025. They were hospitalized and underwent rehabilitation simultaneously at Sheba Medical Center. Initially, their interactions were limited to brief acknowledgments in the rehabilitation corridors, but about a year ago, during a joint hydrotherapy session, their relationship began to deepen.

Asaf was injured on January 10, 2025, during a maneuver in the Gaza Strip when an explosive device detonated in a building, causing him severe injuries including brain hemorrhage and skull fractures. He spent three months in neurological rehabilitation and continues daily therapy. Lian was wounded nearly a month later, on February 8, 2025, during an operation in Tulkarm where she was serving as a medic. She was shot in the hand during an ambush and was treated initially at Meir Hospital before being transferred to Sheba.

Their first date took place after completing one of their rehabilitation treatments, and their bond grew stronger as they found mutual understanding in coping with their injuries. Lian expressed that they understand each other's pain and needs, while Asaf admitted initial fears about entering a relationship under such circumstances but ultimately found comfort and support in their connection. He emphasized that Lian understands him better than anyone else due to their shared experiences and injuries.
