Israel's Under-20 Water Polo Team Wins Opener at European Championship in Portugal

Israel's under-20 water polo team started strong at the European Championship Division B in Portugal, securing a 17-11 victory over Belarus in their opening match on August 10, 2026. The Israeli squad dominated from the outset, winning the first quarter 6-3 and delivering a decisive 5-0 run in the third quarter. Amir Shaprir led the team with five goals, while Tomer Erezi contributed four, Kai Mitak and Raz Sharir scored three each, and Itay Goshen added two.

Coach Marko Čorić emphasized the team's broader goals beyond this win, stating their main objective is to compete for promotion to Division A. He highlighted the importance of building a strong team identity, discipline, and fighting spirit. Čorić noted that most players were born in 2008 and 2009, making many of them up to three years younger than the tournament's age limit, underscoring the team's potential for future development.
