Israeli Man Faces Detention Over Threats Against Police Commander Amid Protest Violence

Moshe Cohen, a 44-year-old resident of Modi'in Illit, is facing criminal charges after posting inciting messages against Bnei Brak-Ramat Gan police station commander Superintendent Yuval Shavit. The messages were shared in a WhatsApp group following police violence against protesters on Highway 4, during which officers tore protesters' pants. The incident prompted Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir to call for the dismissal of the police commander.

Police investigators from the Masuav station opened an inquiry after receiving information about threatening statements directed at Superintendent Shavit. Cohen wrote that Shavit should be met "measure for measure" and used the phrase "the one who comes to kill you, kill him first," referring to Shavit as a "terrorist." Following a swift investigation, Cohen was located, arrested, and interrogated before being detained.

The Tel Aviv District Prosecution filed charges against Cohen for threats and simultaneously requested his detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings. The police emphasized their zero-tolerance policy toward any threats or incitement against officers and public officials, stating they will act decisively to uphold the law and protect those serving in official capacities.
