Suspect in Threats Against Bnei Brak Police Chief Detained for Nine More Days

Moshe Cohen from Modi'in Illit has had his detention extended by nine days on suspicion of threatening the commander of the Bnei Brak police station, Superintendent Yuval Shavit. The extension was ordered following a hearing held earlier today, although no formal indictment has yet been filed against Cohen. Cohen, known for his activism against the conscription of yeshiva students, was arrested after posting messages in a WhatsApp group that included references to "tearing the pants" of the police chief. One of the statements attributed to him, made in the context of a heated protest on Highway 4 about two months ago, said: "If they tore the pants of the Bnei Brak police chief, maybe he wouldn’t tear others." The investigation is being conducted by the Special Investigations Unit. However, it has emerged that this unit may be under the command of the very police chief targeted by the threats, raising concerns about potential conflicts of interest in how the investigation is managed.
