Modi'in Illit Man Arrested for Threatening Bnei Brak Police Commander

Moshe Cohen, a resident of Modi'in Illit, was arrested on suspicion of repeatedly threatening and calling to harm the commander of the Bnei Brak police station, Superintendent Yuval Shavit. Cohen allegedly even threatened to kill him. The arrest was extended by four days by the Magistrate's Court, which ruled that these were not mere death wishes but serious threats indicating intent and potential planning for physical harm.

The threats reportedly stemmed from a heated protest on Road 4 about two months ago, during which Cohen said, "If they tore the pants off the Bnei Brak police commander, maybe he wouldn’t tear others." Cohen is known as an activist in protests against the conscription of yeshiva students. About six weeks ago, he visited Yitzhak Drutman, a prominent protest activist recently released from custody on suspicion of assaulting a policewoman during a demonstration on Geha Road, and presented him with a fruit tray as a gesture of support.

The case highlights tensions surrounding the protests against military conscription in ultra-Orthodox communities and the confrontations with law enforcement officials involved in managing these protests.
