Investigation into Eldar Dayan’s Death Uncovers Suspected Neglect by Friends

The investigation into the tragic death of Eldar Yitzhak Dayan, conducted by the Sharon District Central Unit, has taken a new turn. Alongside the existing murder suspicions, investigators are now probing whether two of Dayan’s friends knowingly abandoned him while he was injured. According to reports from i24NEWS, the two suspects, who had previously remained silent, have begun providing detailed testimonies that partially align with forensic evidence collected at the scene.

The inquiry focuses not only on the direct causes of Dayan’s death but also on the behavior of his two friends after they realized he was wounded during a violent altercation near Hod Hasharon and Park HaYarkon. Evidence indicates that Dayan was already injured during their escape, yet his friends did not seek medical help or assist him. Authorities are examining whether they deliberately left him behind to save themselves or lost him unintentionally during the flight.

If the neglect suspicion is confirmed, legal proceedings may invoke the "do not stand idly by" law, holding the suspects criminally responsible for failing to save Dayan’s life despite knowing his urgent need for medical aid. Last week, Israeli police officially confirmed the body found near Road 40 was Dayan’s, and the suspects’ detention was extended by the Petah Tikva court.

Forensic evidence from the discovery site is undergoing further laboratory analysis. A senior official involved in the case expressed optimism that investigators will soon reconstruct a comprehensive and accurate timeline of the events leading to Dayan’s death. The case began on July 18, 2026, when Dayan and two friends were involved in a violent fight with five other youths. During the altercation, one friend allegedly attempted to run over the others with Dayan’s car, damaging its windshield.

After fleeing to a gas station near Petah Tikva, the trio abandoned the vehicle, removed its license plates, and split up. The two friends returned to Dimona by public transport, while Dayan disappeared after sending a message to his partner saying, "There’s trouble." The two friends were arrested in Dimona on charges including obstruction of justice, threats, conspiracy, and endangering life. The new neglect suspicion could significantly alter the legal case against them.
