Somali Man Attacks Israeli Tent With Knife at Edmonton Festival, Arrested
A Somali man was arrested by Canadian police after attempting to attack the Israeli tent with a knife at the Edmonton Heritage Festival. During the incident, he vandalized the display while shouting slogans such as "All Zionists are racists" and "One solution, revolution." No injuries were reported. Video footage captured a participant crying out for help amid the chaos.
Stacey Levitt-Right, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton, informed the community that immediately after the attack, artists scheduled to perform were evacuated to a cultural tent along with staff and volunteers. After receiving clearance, the performers chose to proceed with a shortened show, demonstrating resilience and pride.
This attack coincides with a sharp rise in antisemitic incidents in Canada. According to B'nai Brith Canada, 27 violent antisemitic events have been recorded since the start of 2026, more than double the total for all of 2025. The year 2026 now ranks as the second highest for violent antisemitic incidents, following a peak of 77 cases in 2023 after the October 7 attack and the onset of war.
