Man Attacks Israeli Pavilion With Knife at Canadian Heritage Festival, Calls Zionists Racist

Canadian police arrested a man who charged with a knife at the Israeli pavilion during a heritage festival in Edmonton, Alberta. No injuries were reported. Video footage circulating online shows a shadowy figure attempting to slash the Israeli pavilion tent with a knife, followed by security personnel detaining the suspect as he shouted, "All Zionists are racists." The attacker is reported to be of Somali descent.

Stacey Levitt-Right, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton, addressed the incident in a community message, explaining that dancers scheduled to perform were quickly moved to a cultural tent for safety. They were given the option to perform a shortened show or not perform at all, and despite hearing chants of "All Zionists are racists" and "One solution, revolution," they chose to dance. Levitt-Right praised their resilience and pride in the face of the attack.

This incident comes amid a sharp rise in antisemitic events in Canada. Data from B'nai Brith Canada shows that since the start of 2026, 27 violent antisemitic incidents have been recorded, more than double the 10 incidents documented in all of 2025. These violent acts include shootings targeting Jewish institutions. Richard Robertson, the organization's research and advocacy director, noted that 2026 is on track to be the second most violent year after 2023, which saw 77 antisemitic violent incidents following the Hamas terror attack on October 7 and the ensuing war. The current year's figures already surpass those of 2022, 2024, and 2025 combined.
