Israeli Security Forces Warn of Explosive Drone Threat from Within Israel

Israeli security officials have raised concerns about the increasing use of explosive drones by terrorist organizations operating from within Israeli territory. According to a security source, there is a significant rise both in the willingness and capability of these groups to deploy drones equipped with explosives, including those controlled via fiber optic cables from Israeli cities, targeting various locations. This marks a new and more complex threat compared to previous incidents.

During recent security discussions, including one led by Defense Minister Israel Katz, officials acknowledged that there is currently no effective operational solution to counter the explosive drone threat. A security official described the ease of acquiring and arming drones, stating, "Buying a drone and attaching explosives to it is almost as easy as kicking a ball." The situation remains challenging, with a long way to go before an effective countermeasure is found.

In late May, the Israeli military began testing technological means to detect and warn against drone threats, initially deployed experimentally in Lebanon. Last month, Israeli authorities considered imposing a comprehensive ban on drone flights over Israeli airspace due to fears that Iran might use drones in an attack. The rationale behind this potential ban includes the absence of a technological solution to neutralize explosive drones and concerns that drone use by Iran, Hezbollah, and other groups could escalate, possibly even within Israel's borders.
