Israeli Security Officials Warn of Drone Attack Threat Amid Regional Tensions

In a confidential discussion held by the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, representatives from Israel's National Security Council informed lawmakers that the security cabinet has received warnings about a potential drone threat. While officials did not specify the exact target or origin of the threat, military and national security representatives emphasized that Israel's adversaries are continuously rearming, and the possibility of drone attacks is a significant concern for the top defense leadership.

Last month, a senior Israeli official revealed plans in Jerusalem to impose strict regulations and a ban on drone usage, fearing the deployment of explosive or fiber-optic drones from neighboring countries or the West Bank amid escalating tensions with Iran. This issue has been extensively discussed within the political-security cabinet, with hopes that the ban will facilitate better management of the threat.

Security sources told ynet there is currently no indication of explosive or fiber-optic drones present in the West Bank, but acknowledged the threat as very serious and without a current solution. Israeli officials fear scenarios where such drones could target public officials or key institutions. Two months ago, ynet reported that the Israeli military detected Iranian efforts to incite unrest in the West Bank, including attempts to replicate the use of explosive drones that have caused significant damage to IDF forces in Lebanon. The military's working assumption remains that no active explosive drones are yet operational in the West Bank, but as a precaution, the IDF confiscates any drones found in the area.
