Mossad Chief Removes Two Senior Officials Over Failed Iran Regime Change Plan

Mossad Director Romi Gopman has dismissed two senior officials following the failure of an operational plan aimed at toppling the Iranian regime. The two officials, the head of Mossad's intelligence directorate appointed in December and the head of the Iran division, were directly involved in formulating the plan. The strategy sought to overthrow the Iranian government by collaborating with minority groups within Iran and installing alternative Iranian leaders. However, the plan either failed completely or was never implemented.

The dismissed officials were among the architects who developed the plan into a comprehensive operational document. It was reportedly presented to then-US President Donald Trump but was not executed on the ground. Security sources noted a lack of chemistry between Gopman and the two officials from the start of their tenure, and their departure is described as consensual. Nevertheless, the timing and their direct involvement in the failed plan suggest Gopman holds them responsible for its outcome.

Despite their significant contributions to national security over their careers, the two are expected to leave Mossad following Gopman's decision. This move underscores internal accountability within the agency after a major intelligence setback concerning Iran.
