Mossad Chief Removes Key Officials Over Failed Iran Regime-Change Plan

The Mossad's operational plan aimed at overthrowing the Iranian regime has failed, leading to significant leadership changes within the agency. Roman Gofman, the head of Mossad, decided to remove two senior officials involved in planning the mission to replace Iran's ruling clerics. The dismissed officials include the head of the Intelligence Directorate, who assumed the role in December, and the head of the Iran Division, Yaron Avraham.

Security sources revealed that from the outset, there was a lack of chemistry between Gofman and these two leaders, and their tenure is now ending by mutual agreement. Although they may remain in other roles within Mossad, their removal is part of a broader organizational restructuring. These officials were responsible for devising and documenting the plan to topple the Iranian regime, a plan that was either a complete failure or never implemented on the ground.

Gofman holds them accountable for the failure of the operation, which was intended to be presented to then-President Donald Trump. The decision underscores the seriousness with which Mossad leadership views the unsuccessful attempt to influence Iran's political future and signals a shift in the agency's approach moving forward.
