Israeli Lawmaker Faces Death Threats, Security Dramatically Increased

A 25-year-old East Jerusalem resident was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill MK Tzvi Sukkot, chairman of the Knesset Education Committee. The suspect reportedly sent Sukkot threatening messages via social media, including images of weapons and ammunition, with explicit threats to his life. The suspect, Tarzan Hammad, allegedly wrote, "I always have a weapon, I travel without security checks, I will kill you when I see you." Following the threats, Israeli police launched a swift investigation, took testimony from Sukkot, and detained the suspect for questioning.

In response to the incident, the Knesset and Israeli police held a security assessment, resulting in raising the threat level against MK Sukkot to level 4 and significantly enhancing his security arrangements. According to Sukkot's office, the threats followed a series of visits he made to Arab sector schools as part of his parliamentary work and his efforts to combat extortion in the community.

MK Sukkot praised the police for their rapid action and stated that the threats would not deter him from his public duties. He emphasized that violence, crime, and illegal weapons accumulation in the Arab sector pose a serious threat to Israeli citizens' security, and he vowed to continue fighting these issues vigorously. He warned that anyone who believes threats will silence him is mistaken.
