Israeli Contractor Indicted for Reckless Manslaughter in Shooting of Palestinian Teacher in West Bank

The Israeli prosecution has filed charges against Yinon Eliya Levi for reckless manslaughter following a fatal shooting incident in Hebron, West Bank. Levi, a contractor working on a new neighborhood construction, ordered the creation of a new access route through private Palestinian land, which was not part of the original work plan. This unauthorized action led to a confrontation with local residents.

According to the indictment, Levi instructed his 17-year-old driver to avoid the original access path and instead break through a fence on private property. When villagers gathered to prevent the passage, the driver operated an excavator that struck a man, causing head and shoulder injuries. Despite this, Levi directed the driver to continue.

The situation escalated as some residents threw stones at the excavator. Levi confronted the crowd, assaulted a bystander, and damaged a phone recording the event. He then drew his pistol, moved away, and fired a bullet parallel to the ground toward an area where people, including children, were present. The bullet fatally struck Odeh Al-Hadalin, a Palestinian teacher in the community center yard.

The prosecution states that the shooting was preceded by a physical altercation and that Levi’s actions directly caused Al-Hadalin’s death. The indictment highlights the reckless nature of firing into a populated area during the dispute. The case marks a significant legal development one year after the incident in Hebron.
