Israeli Contractor Indicted for Reckless Manslaughter in Shooting of Palestinian Teacher in West Bank

The Israeli prosecution has filed charges against Yinon Eliya Levi, a resident of Maon, for reckless manslaughter following a shooting incident that led to the death of Palestinian teacher Ouda Al-Hadlin in Hebron, West Bank. Levi, working as a contractor for a village construction project, ordered the creation of a new access route through private Palestinian land, which was not part of the original work plan. This action sparked a confrontation with local residents.

According to the indictment, Levi instructed his 17-year-old driver to avoid the original access path and instead break through a fence on private property using an excavator. When villagers gathered to prevent the passage and threw stones at the excavator, Levi confronted them, assaulted one individual, and damaged a phone belonging to someone filming the event. He then drew his pistol and fired a shot parallel to the ground toward an area where children and other people were present.

The bullet struck Ouda Al-Hadlin, who was in the courtyard of a community center, resulting in his death. The prosecution states that the shooting was preceded by a physical altercation and that Levi's actions directly caused the fatality. The case highlights tensions arising from unauthorized construction activities in the West Bank and the resulting clashes between Israeli workers and Palestinian residents.

The indictment was submitted on August 6, 2026, marking a year since the incident. Levi faces serious legal consequences for his role in the fatal shooting during the conflict over land access in the occupied territory.
