WhatsApp Enhances Group Chats with New Poll Features and Tagging Options

WhatsApp announced a series of new upgrades to its group chat features, focusing on improved poll management, expanded tagging capabilities, and easier creation of new groups from existing ones. These updates will be gradually rolled out to users over the coming weeks. The centerpiece of the update is a significant enhancement to the app's polling system. Users can now hide voter identities to allow more private feedback, set automatic poll closing times with deadlines, and edit poll questions up to 15 minutes after posting to correct errors or update wording without creating a new poll.

Additionally, WhatsApp introduced support for the @all tag, which sends a notification to every group member simultaneously. This feature is designed for urgent or important messages, such as schedule changes, work announcements, or school closures. In groups with more than 32 members, only group admins can use the @all tag, and users can mute these notifications through the app's settings.

The third update simplifies creating new groups from existing ones. Instead of manually adding participants to a new group, users can now duplicate a group directly from the existing group's info screen. This is useful for splitting discussions or launching project-specific groups without starting from scratch. These enhancements follow recent WhatsApp improvements like Apple Music content sharing and iPad app registration without a phone number, with the company continuing to focus on enriching the group chat experience, a core feature of the platform.
