WhatsApp Adds @all Tagging, Enhanced Polls, and AI Content Labels in Group Chats

WhatsApp has introduced several new features to improve group chat interactions, including the ability to tag all members at once, upgraded polls, and the option to create new groups from existing ones. The @all tagging feature sends a notification to every group member, designed for urgent messages like event changes or closures. In groups with more than 32 participants, only admins can use this feature to maintain order.

Polls have been enhanced with options to hide voter identities for privacy, set a closing time to end voting, and allow editing of polls within 15 minutes after posting. Additionally, users can now create a new group directly from an existing group, useful for splitting discussions or planning events such as surprise parties.

In response to concerns about AI-generated misinformation spreading in chats, WhatsApp is rolling out a new label for AI-created media content in channels. Channel admins can tag posts containing AI-generated files with a visible "AI content" label, helping followers identify such media. This feature currently applies only to channels, not private or group chats, and aims to increase transparency amid growing use of generative AI. The label applies regardless of the AI tool used and may be mandatory in regions with legal disclosure requirements.

These updates follow WhatsApp's recent introduction of labels for paid collaborations in channels, reflecting a broader effort by Meta to enhance content transparency. Text messages generated with AI tools may be exempt from labeling, focusing the new feature mainly on media files. The rollout demonstrates WhatsApp's ongoing commitment to improving user experience and addressing challenges posed by AI in digital communication.
