Israel Conducts Planned Arrow Missile Defense Test Over Southern Coastal Plain

The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday evening that it conducted a pre-planned test of the Arrow missile defense system in cooperation with the Israel Defense Forces and Israel Aerospace Industries. During the test, a visible trail was recorded in the sky over the southern coastal plain, including near the city of Ashdod, which initially caused alarm among beachgoers until it was clarified as a military exercise.

The Ministry explained that the Arrow system is designed to intercept ballistic threats outside and at the edge of the atmosphere, serving as a key layer of defense against long-range strategic threats. The system comprises two main components: Arrow 2 and Arrow 3. Arrow 3 targets long-range ballistic missiles outside the atmosphere through direct hit interception, while Arrow 2 is intended to engage threats that have penetrated into the atmosphere.
