Hapoel Tel Aviv Signs Douglas Awusu in Club's Record Deal

Hapoel Tel Aviv has officially signed 20-year-old winger Douglas Awusu from Red Star Belgrade, marking the most expensive acquisition in the club's history. Awusu, valued at 4.5 million euros by Transfermarkt, joined Red Star in January for 2.2 million euros after previously playing for Serbian club Radnik. He was close to transferring to Viktoria Plzen last summer for 3.3 million euros but failed the medical tests, preventing the move.

Awusu signed a four-year contract with Hapoel Tel Aviv for 2.2 million euros and will wear jersey number 35. He is expected to join the team ahead of their upcoming second-leg match against Katowice. After signing, Awusu expressed excitement about joining the club and praised the passionate fanbase, stating, "I believe together with the team, we will fight and give everything for Hapoel. I look forward to seeing you in Hungary. Yalla Hapoel."

The transfer comes following the sale of Cypriot star Loizos Loizou to Red Star Belgrade for a record 3.5 million euros, with Hapoel receiving a net 3 million euros and retaining 10% of any future sale. Awusu, known for his strong left foot and right-wing position, has scored nine goals in 33 appearances in the Serbian top league last season. His arrival fills the gap left by Loizou and was pursued despite interest from other Israeli clubs such as Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa, who declined due to his high price and youth.

This signing represents a significant investment by Hapoel Tel Aviv as they aim to strengthen their attack under coach Barada and compete effectively in upcoming matches.
