WhatsApp Faces New Wave of Account Blocks Amid Meta Investigation

A new wave of unexplained WhatsApp account blocks has affected users in Israel and worldwide, with many reporting sudden suspensions without clear reasons. Some users who were previously unblocked during an earlier wave have been blocked again, while others remain locked out for days despite submitting appeals to Meta. The issue has also extended to Instagram accounts.

Affected users have reported difficulties even after their accounts were restored, including being unable to log back in after entering verification codes, a bug that remains unresolved. Meta confirmed the problem is under investigation and stated it is working to restore access to affected accounts. The company explained that it continuously blocks accounts suspected of violating WhatsApp's terms to protect users but acknowledged errors can occur and promised prompt corrections.

The Israeli Internet Association advises users to appeal account blocks directly through the WhatsApp app and warns against paying third parties for unblocking services, which can cost hundreds or thousands of shekels. They also recommend backing up important data and preparing alternative communication methods due to the high dependence on WhatsApp in Israel. The association called for considering the use of alternative messaging apps amid this ongoing disruption.
