Hapoel Tel Aviv Plans Versatile Role for New Signing Douglas Owusu

Douglas Owusu, the Ghanaian forward, is set to become Hapoel Tel Aviv's most expensive signing after undergoing comprehensive medical tests in Serbia on August 4, 2026, prior to finalizing his contract. The club expects no issues from the medicals but is cautious to avoid risks. The transfer deal was facilitated by a financial arrangement involving Luizao, another player whose transfer payments from Red Star Belgrade were partially offset against Owusu's fee. Red Star is estimated to pay around one million euros for Luizao, while two million euros will be deducted from Owusu's transfer cost.

There has been some debate about Owusu's playing position, as he has primarily played as a right winger throughout his career. However, Hapoel Tel Aviv officials emphasize his versatility, noting he can perform across all attacking roles, including as a second striker, attacking midfielder (number 10), and left winger. Owusu reportedly grew up playing as a number 10, adding to his adaptability.

If the transfer is completed at least 24 hours before Hapoel Tel Aviv's first European match against Katowice, Owusu will be eligible for registration in European competitions. While he is unlikely to feature in the first leg, his participation in the return leg will depend on his physical condition and the club's strategic decisions.
