Douglas Awusu's Transfer to Hapoel Tel Aviv Collapses Due to Knee Injury Concerns

Douglas Awusu, the winger from Red Star Belgrade, was set to join Hapoel Tel Aviv as a replacement for Louizos Louizo, becoming the club's most expensive signing. This would have been his second agreement with the club this summer. Earlier, Awusu was supposed to transfer to Viktoria Plzen for 3.3 million euros, but the deal fell through in May after a knee injury was discovered during medical examinations.

Despite playing half a match against Novi Pazar in the Serbian league's upper playoff and being on the squad for two subsequent games, Plzen canceled the transfer due to concerns over his knee. Awusu underwent further medical tests in Serbia and later was included in Red Star's squad for a friendly against Zenit St. Petersburg, though he did not play. He traveled with the team to their training camp, and there were rumors of a possible loan to OFK Belgrade, where Henry Edu played last season, but this did not materialize.

Awusu was not registered for any Serbian SuperLiga or Champions League matches, indicating he was not in the club's professional plans. Metalist Kharkiv also showed interest, but no transfer occurred. The collapse of the Plzen deal and the ongoing injury concerns have left Awusu's future uncertain as he now looks to finalize his move to Hapoel Tel Aviv under coach Eliniv Breda.
