Peace Council Unveils Over 60 Gaza Projects Starting August to Boost Economy and Security

The Peace Council has revealed a comprehensive plan comprising more than 60 projects aimed at Gaza's future, set to begin as early as August 2024 and continue through January 2027. These initiatives focus primarily on infrastructure development and economic acceleration rather than reconstruction, alongside several internal security projects. Planned efforts include establishing additional pilot zones and humanitarian camps, launching a tech employment program called the "Gaza Tech Park," rehabilitating hospitals, and clearing rubble and debris.

Security-related projects involve creating a personal security unit to protect members of the technocrats' committee, who have so far not entered Gaza due to security concerns. New police detention facilities will also be constructed, and other programs will support a multinational force. Implementation depends on funding the Peace Council aims to raise and obtaining Israeli approval.

This plan follows a recent announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who declared a historic agreement for Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza to disarm. Under the deal, Hamas will halt military activity for 14 days before beginning disarmament, while Israel is expected to maintain a ceasefire as per an agreement from October 2023. Hamas has reportedly conveyed its consent to the U.S., Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey. Meanwhile, Israeli military strikes in Gaza overnight resulted in 18 Palestinian fatalities, highlighting ongoing tensions despite diplomatic efforts.
