Peace Council Prepares to Implement Gaza Ceasefire Agreement in Coming Days

The Peace Council anticipates beginning the implementation of a 15-point agreement aimed at ending the war in Gaza within the next few days, according to a Friday report by Kan News. Israel is not a party to the agreement, which requires approval from Hamas, the mediating countries, and the council established by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Under the deal, Hamas will halt all military activities, including rearmament, for the first 14 days, followed by a process of disarmament. Concurrently, Israel is expected to maintain a ceasefire as per an agreement signed in October of the previous year.

Sources indicate that Hamas has conveyed its consent to the document to the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey. However, clause 8, which paves the way for Palestinian self-determination, faced criticism even from Hamas. The group sought language stating that the plan's implementation would fulfill all conditions for a Palestinian state. American officials consider it a significant achievement that Hamas agreed to restrict weapon possession solely to members of the technocratic government in Gaza.

A Peace Council official told Kan News that the agreement does not demand anything from Israel beyond what it has already signed, offering Israel a chance to witness Hamas voluntarily disarm. The official emphasized that the document aligns with the previously established 20-point framework and expressed hope that Gaza will move toward prosperity rather than terror. Israeli concerns about the agreement have been acknowledged, with unresolved issues expected to be addressed during the implementation phase. The mechanisms and timelines for the agreement are expected to be finalized within the next two weeks.
