Peace Council Outlines Gaza Agreement Stages Including Controversial Heavy Weapons Clause

The Peace Council, which manages and promotes President Trump's diplomatic plan to end the Gaza conflict, has released a detailed framework outlining the stages for implementing the agreement. The plan envisions the return of Palestinian sovereignty, reconstruction, security, and economic prosperity, marking the start of a credible political process toward an independent Palestinian state. Implementation is expected to begin soon with the deployment of stabilization forces and a technocratic government in Gaza.

However, two key provisions are expected to cause significant concern for Israel. Notably, the original agreement called for the complete disarmament of Gaza or at least transferring heavy weapons to a third party. The new plan deviates from this by stipulating that heavy weapons, military production sites, weapons stockpiles, and tunnels will be decommissioned and stored within Gaza under the Peace Council's authority, rather than removed. This process will be linked to a phased Israeli withdrawal and involve active participation from Palestinian factions.

This clause is particularly troubling for Israel, as it raises fears that heavy weapons could eventually fall back into the hands of terrorist organizations. The Peace Council's approach contradicts the original disarmament terms and presents a challenge for Israeli security considerations moving forward.
