Israeli Election Committee and Legal Officials Stress Integrity as Key to Public Trust

Ahead of the upcoming elections, Central Elections Committee Chair Judge Noam Solberg and Acting Director General Attorney Din Livneh met with Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and State Attorney Amit Isman to discuss election preparations. Solberg emphasized that election integrity is not only a legal principle but a fundamental condition for public trust in democracy. He highlighted the committee's readiness to face all challenges in cooperation with state authorities and stressed the importance of law enforcement agencies' commitment to strict and effective enforcement of election laws to protect citizens' voting rights.

Earlier the same day, during a Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee session on election preparations attended by Solberg and Shin Bet Chief David Zini, MK Boaz Bismuth raised serious concerns about threats to election integrity and democratic order. Bismuth warned of internal threats arising from diminished public trust in institutions responsible for safeguarding election integrity, citing unclear and sometimes questionable recent appointments within the Elections Committee that require explanation.

In response, Solberg expressed surprise at these claims, affirming that the committee is aware of troubling reports and is conducting internal reviews. He defended the recent appointments as competent and dedicated professionals, stating his confidence in their abilities and the committee's effective operation. Bismuth insisted that his concerns are well-founded and supported by evidence, promising to detail the appointments during the discussion.

Attorney General Baharav-Miara underscored that maintaining election integrity is a cornerstone of Israeli democracy and assured full cooperation between law enforcement and the Elections Committee to ensure a fair and clean electoral process. State Attorney Isman added that the State Prosecution will work alongside the police, Elections Committee, and relevant authorities to provide a professional, swift, and effective response to any suspected election law violations, emphasizing equal, resolute, and uncompromising enforcement.
