IDF Punishes Leaders of Givati Battalion Mutiny with Jail and Combat Dismissal

The unusual incident in the Givati Brigade's Tzabar Battalion concluded with severe disciplinary measures. One day after dozens of soldiers and commanders demonstratively left the Sde Teyman base, the IDF completed trials for the event's leaders and imposed their sentences. Fourteen soldiers who led the protest were sentenced to 30 days in military prison. Additionally, they were dismissed from combat roles and reassigned out of frontline service.

Around 80 other soldiers who left the base but returned will undergo a command and educational process alongside their commanders this coming Saturday. This program aims to reinforce discipline, values, and the expected norms of IDF soldiers. The case remains open: two more soldiers involved in leading the event appeared overnight and will face trial soon, while another soldier who has yet to appear will be dealt with later, with decisions to be communicated subsequently.

The trials were conducted by Givati Brigade Commander Colonel Natanel Shamka. The incident occurred after dozens of soldiers and commanders from the Tzabar Battalion left the Sde Teyman base in protest, abandoning their weapons and going absent without leave. The trigger for the protest was the battalion commander's decision to break in front of the soldiers the metal "Pogim" plaques, which bear the morale slogans of the companies and platoons within the battalion.
