Massive Fire Destroys Major Kosher Meat Plant in Iowa, Threatening US Supply

A massive fire completely destroyed the Agri Star kosher meat processing plant in Postville, Iowa, one of North America's largest and most important kosher meat facilities. The blaze began early Tuesday morning and continued burning intensely for over 24 hours, causing severe damage and raising serious concerns about the future supply of kosher meat in the United States. More than 17 firefighting units from surrounding towns, some traveling up to 90 minutes away, worked through the night to control the fire. Due to the enormous water usage during firefighting efforts, city officials urgently requested Postville residents to immediately reduce water consumption.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, with no official information released by authorities regarding the ignition source. Agri Star is the largest employer in the area, providing jobs to thousands, including hundreds of slaughterers, supervisors, and Orthodox Jewish workers whose livelihoods depend on the plant's operations.
