Internal Turmoil Hits Israel's Democratic Party After Controversial Candidate Comments

Israel's Democratic Party is facing a severe internal crisis following controversial remarks by Moshe Redman, the party's ninth-place candidate. After a deadly attack in the West Bank's Samaria region, where two Israelis were killed, Redman expressed condolences not only to the victims' families but also to the family of the attacker, while criticizing the settlement enterprise and its residents. This sparked widespread condemnation both publicly and within the party.

In a confidential internal meeting, tensions escalated sharply among party members. Several MKs and candidates accused Redman of damaging the party's image and undermining the campaign. Omri Ronen, ranked seventh on the list, demanded that Redman comply with the campaign leadership and cease acting independently, reminding him that the primary elections had ended and coordination with the communications team was mandatory.

The strongest reaction came from MK Naama Lazimi, who warned that such an extreme stance could devastate the party's electoral prospects, potentially reducing its Knesset seats to single digits. Party chairman Yair Golan attempted to calm the situation and took responsibility for the party's handling of the fallout, admitting mistakes in managing the communication strategy amid the growing internal crisis.
