Internal Clash Erupts in Democratic Party Over Controversial Post After West Bank Attack

The Democratic Party in Israel experienced intense internal conflict following a condolence post by Moshe Redman, the party's ninth candidate. After a deadly attack in the West Bank, Redman expressed sympathy both for the Israeli victim's family and the Palestinian families who lost members, including the attacker’s family, while blaming settlers for escalating tensions. This sparked a heated exchange during a party meeting, with Omri Ronen, candidate number seven, sharply criticizing Redman for his conduct and reminding him that the primaries were over. Knesset member Naama Lazimi joined the criticism, warning that the party risked dropping to single-digit support if such behavior continued. Party leader Yair Golan attempted to calm the situation, admitting to a communication failure regarding the incident.

The turmoil within the Democratic Party has raised concerns among right-leaning parties in the opposition bloc about their ability to attract undecided voters. In response, Avigdor Lieberman, head of the Israel Beiteinu party, sent a message to his party leadership expressing distrust in Golan and his colleagues, stating they were "not the optimal partners" and warning that they must not hold the defense and justice portfolios, which he deemed unsuitable for them.
