IDF Completes Destruction of Hamas Terror Tunnels in Southern Gaza After Eight Months

The Israel Defense Forces announced the completion of a complex eight-month mission by Brigade 188 combat teams in southern Gaza Strip, under the command of the Gaza Division (143). The operation focused on systematically clearing the "yellow line" area of terror infrastructure to deny Hamas underground capabilities and strengthen Israeli operational control in the region.

A key achievement was the destruction of over ten major underground tunnel routes, carried out in close cooperation with the Special Engineering Unit (Yahalom). Among the tunnels destroyed was a central Hamas tunnel used to hold Israeli hostages. The engineering operation involved detailed mapping, structural investigation, and total demolition to prevent future use.

IDF released impressive aerial footage showing the moment of controlled explosions that created massive smoke and dust clouds, illustrating the extensive underground network beneath populated areas in southern Gaza. In addition to the subterranean efforts, troops raided numerous surface terror strongholds, seizing large quantities of weapons including rocket launchers, rockets, hand grenades, powerful explosives, and Kalashnikov rifles. These seizures disrupted Hamas terror capabilities and prevented potential attacks.

To consolidate long-term defense, Brigade 188 established new operational posts and routes to maintain control and prevent terror elements from returning to the contact line. The Southern Command forces remain deployed according to the ceasefire framework and continue to act decisively to neutralize immediate threats to Israeli civilians and soldiers.

This operation is part of a broader IDF campaign to dismantle terror infrastructure and deepen operational control in Gaza. Recent reports indicate progress in negotiations between Israel and Hamas on implementing a second phase in Gaza, including Israeli troop withdrawals and arms regulation, though the IDF maintains full operational readiness on the ground.
