Givati Brigade Soldiers Protest After Commander Destroys Unit Tradition at Field Yemen Base

Tensions escalated at the Field Yemen military base on Thursday when over 100 soldiers from the Givati Brigade's Tzabar Battalion abandoned their posts and left the base without their weapons, following a dispute with their commanders. The incident was triggered after the battalion commander and other officers inspected the company’s equipment containers and broke morale plaques known as "pogim," which bear the slogans and symbols representing the unit's heritage and spirit.

The soldiers explained that these plaques are not mere decorations but cherished emblems passed down through generations, symbolizing unity, strength, and pride, especially after enduring combat in Gaza and Lebanon. They expressed that the destruction of these symbols felt like an attack on their collective morale and identity. "When they break these symbols, they break part of the fighters' spirit," the soldiers stated, emphasizing that this act was part of broader mistreatment by some officers.

In response to the incident, the soldiers decided to leave the base with their personal belongings but without their military gear or weapons, which were secured in containers.
