Dozens of Givati Brigade Fighters Flee Shdema Yemen Base After Dispute with Command

Dozens of fighters from the Givati Brigade's Sabra Battalion fled the Shdema Yemen base following a dispute with senior command staff, Walla reported on Thursday. The conflict arose when the command decided to remove and destroy symbols displayed in the platoons, a move opposed by the fighters. According to sources within the brigade, the battalion commander insisted on carrying out the removal despite the soldiers' objections, leading to a standoff that ended with the fighters leaving the unit and fleeing the base. One soldier described a commander using a 5-kilogram hammer to destroy one of the symbols.

The Givati Brigade recently completed an extended and complex combat operation in southern Lebanon, achieving significant operational successes including the capture of the Bofor Ridge and Bint Jbeil. The brigade's soldiers are known for undertaking the most challenging missions and have received commendations from the General Staff. Following these operations, the Operations Division of the General Staff decided to refresh the forces by reallocating some soldiers to training and others to different operational theaters.

This incident at Shdema Yemen base, where detainees from the Nukhba terror group are held, involved not only military personnel but also civilians and members of the Knesset who reportedly stormed the base. The exact motivations behind the dispute over the symbols remain tied to internal disagreements within the unit's leadership and soldiers.
