Over 100 Givati Brigade Soldiers Leave Shdema Yemen Base in Protest After Commander’s Actions

More than 100 soldiers from the Givati Brigade’s Tzabar Battalion abruptly left the Shdema Yemen military base, abandoning their weapons and military equipment, in a significant protest. The incident occurred after the battalion commander broke morale plaques known as "pogim," which display unit slogans, in front of the troops. This action sparked the soldiers and commanders to pack their personal belongings and depart the base without authorization, leaving their weapons secured in a container.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson confirmed that several soldiers began leaving the base without their commanders’ approval following the removal of signs related to non-normative events and longstanding traditions within the battalion. The IDF stated the event is under investigation and emphasized that such conduct contradicts the values expected of IDF soldiers.

This protest highlights tensions within the Givati Brigade at Shdema Yemen base, with the battalion commander’s decision to remove symbolic morale items triggering the mass walkout. The soldiers’ return to their homes without military gear marks an unusual disciplinary challenge for the IDF leadership, who are currently managing the situation.
