Israel Imposes Nationwide Ban on Open Fires Until End of August Due to Heatwave

The Commissioner of Israel Fire and Rescue Services, Major General Eyal Caspi, has issued a nationwide ban on lighting fires in open areas across Israel until August 31, 2026. This decision, effective from July 23, 2026, responds to an anticipated severe heatwave expected to increase the risk of large-scale wildfires. The ban covers all open spaces, including nature reserves and national parks.

While the prohibition extends to all open flames, technical work that involves fire or sparks may proceed only under strict conditions outlined in the order. However, the public is allowed to use designated facilities such as grills for cooking or heating food, provided they follow safety guidelines. Fire and Rescue Services urge citizens to act responsibly, adhere to security and safety instructions, and avoid any negligent behavior that could cause fires.

In case of suspected fires, the public is instructed to immediately call the emergency fire hotline at 102. The ban aims to prevent natural disasters during the period of extreme heat expected to affect the region starting Friday, July 24, 2026.
