Hapoel Jerusalem Parts Ways with Coach Yonatan Alon After Playoff Exit
A day after being eliminated by Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Basketball Premier League semifinal series, Hapoel Jerusalem announced on Friday that it is ending its three-year partnership with head coach Yonatan Alon.
Alon, a lifelong Jerusalem supporter, led the club this season to the Winner Cup preseason title, but the campaign also included disappointment in Europe, where the team was knocked out in the EuroCup quarterfinals despite higher expectations. The season ended with Wednesday's playoff semifinal loss, and the club is already making its first move toward next year.
During his three seasons in charge, Alon also won the State Cup in 2023/24, took Jerusalem to the State Cup final, and guided it to last season's playoff final. The leading candidate to replace him is Sasha Obradovic, who reportedly already finalized terms during the season and only needs to sign and be announced.
