IDF Chief Vows to Hold and Expand Operations in Southern Lebanon for Long-Term Security

Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir visited southern Lebanon on Wednesday, emphasizing that the IDF will not withdraw from territories it has captured until long-term security is guaranteed for northern Israeli communities. Zamir stated that if necessary, Israeli forces will deepen their operations and extend their reach to additional areas within Lebanon. He was accompanied by Northern Command Chief Major General Rafi Milo, 91st Division Commander Brigadier General Yuval Gaz, and other senior officers.

During the visit, Zamir reviewed troop readiness and held discussions with commanders from the Kfir Brigade and other units within the 91st Division. He stressed that the campaign across all fronts is ongoing and that forces must remain prepared for rapid changes and offensive actions to inflict further damage on enemy forces. Zamir also highlighted significant achievements in the campaign against Iran, indicating readiness to intensify efforts if required.

Regarding operations inside Lebanon, Zamir explained that the IDF is clearing Hezbollah terror infrastructure from captured areas, which had been used to threaten northern Israeli towns. He reiterated that the IDF’s presence is based on a security doctrine allowing proactive operations deep into enemy territory to counter direct threats to Israeli civilians. "The IDF is responsible for security and will not withdraw from captured areas until long-term security is assured," he said.

Zamir also praised the Kfir Brigade, which recently entered southern Lebanon after extended combat in Gaza, commending their combat readiness and leadership. He acknowledged the significant force-building efforts in the 97th and 607th battalions, which have proven effective in ongoing operations. Addressing brigade commanders, Zamir affirmed the IDF’s record of success across all theaters.

Concluding, Zamir noted the expanding scope of IDF missions across Lebanon, Syria, Gaza, and the West Bank, underscoring the need to increase the size of the military and its combat personnel. He outlined plans for all regular brigades to undergo rest and refit before the holiday season, alongside efforts to reduce reserve service burdens where possible.
