IDF Chief Visits South Lebanon, Vows Immediate Response to Threats Against Forces
Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir visited the Bofor Ridge area in southern Lebanon on Sunday, conducting a situation assessment alongside Northern Command Chief Major General Rafi Milo and other commanders. Zamir emphasized the strategic importance of the area, describing it as a controlled zone saturated with Hezbollah terror infrastructure, including extensive underground tunnels built over decades with Iranian funding and guidance. These tunnels threaten northern Israeli communities and serve as command centers and firing positions.
Zamir assured the troops that all threats against Israeli forces or settlements would be met with immediate and decisive action. He highlighted that Israeli forces maintain control over key terrain both above and below ground in the Bofor Ridge area. The ongoing operations comply with the terms of the historic agreement between Israel and Lebanon, aiming to neutralize threats to northern residents.
The Chief of Staff also called on the Lebanese Army to fulfill its obligations under the agreement by clearing Hezbollah militants and terror infrastructure from the area. He warned that the IDF remains prepared to swiftly transition to offensive operations should the ceasefire be violated. Zamir praised the 36th Division for its offensive actions, including crossing the Litani River and surprising the enemy, which contributed to the agreement's signing. He noted that Hezbollah has been weakened and defeated in every encounter with Israeli forces and now relies heavily on Iranian support.
